I have created a short 5 minute training
video on how to use the Beam System tool in Revit Architecture 2012, the tool
is similar in RAC 2013.
With the Beam System tool you can easily
create a layout and place exposed floor joists and roof rafters in your model.
When done correctly you can alter the floor or roof sketch and your beam system will flex with the design.
Click this link to view the Viemo video.
Enjoy,

how do you change the tail type of the beams?
ReplyDeleteIt's actually part of the Beam Family, the rafter that I show on the gable roof uses the "Dimension Lumber_Clip Corner 3x12" family.
ReplyDeleteWhere can I find that "Dimension Lumber_Clip Corner 3x12" family? It's not on seek.
DeleteWhat happens when you create rafters on the other side of the roof? Are we able to have the rafters mitred as they meet at the ridge line?
ReplyDeleteYou’ll have to find the angle cut pitch at the end of the rafters and create a component that has that profile at the end.
DeleteRevit will not automatically cut the ends for you, alternately you could leave the ends square and then use the “Join” tool where your rafter ends touch each other.

Thanks for this tutorial Scott. For some reason, placing the beams on the angle wasn't particularly intuitive. Your video helped a great deal :-)
