How to Create a Back Reference View Title

If you want a view title that back references to the origin location of the detail call out.

For example:
A callout of a floor plan view located on sheet A2.0
The Callout view is located on Sheet A2.5 (Below)

On Sheet A2.5 the detail “back references” to the origin of the call out. (Below)

To change your View Title to a view title that will back reference follow these steps:
  •  Select the view title of your view.
  • Under Edit Type select Title Block Back Reference
To create the View Title that will back reference all you have to do is copy your original View Title family and change the sheet number label to Referencing Sheet from Sheet Number

  1. Hi BIM Jedi - Thanks for a good block. I have aquestion concerning this exact subject that I was hoping you can help me with.

Problems with back references on sheets

At my office we are working on a revit project which features 2 floors and each floor is split up to 7 dependent views since the floor plans are so big. (These plans are 1:50)

All our 1:5 details (callouts and sections) are either marked on these 2 floors or on 1:50 sections.

We are experiencing big problems with the back referencing from 1:5 details back to the parent 1:50 view.

Example: A 1:5 detail is drawn as a callout on a 1:50 section. This section is located on sheet A518.
The back reference label on the on the sheet however refers to A120 which is 1 of the 7 dependent floor plan views - and this part of the floor plan is in the other end of the building, meaning that the detail is no where near the view and that sheet.
This means that we have a lot of details refering back to sheet where their callout or section line isn´t on.

For the reference title families for details we are using the label - Referencing sheet.

A way to fix this problem would be much appreciated ?

    Regards

  4. Would be nice if the questions posted here could be answered. From my understanding, you can not back reference more than one sheet and the field will either default to the first sheet the view was referenced on or become blank.

  5. Sorry Wunhunglo, I get busy with work. I agree, I believe you cannot back reference more than one view.
